A Huge Thank You, Friends....
When it first became clear that urgent and very expensive repairs needed to be carried out of the roof of St. Mary's church to preserve the fabric for future generations, Churchwardens, the PCC and parishioners seemed to be faced with an impossible task... how to raise what seemed like an impossible sum of money.
St. Mary's has stood at the heart of the village of Feltwell for hundreds of years and is one of the few remaining significant historic buildings. Thankfully, its repair and restoration was seen as a priority by many in the wider village community. To safeguard the preservation of St. Mary's for the future, the 'Friends of St.Mary's' was born. This hardworking and visionary team set about the daunting task of fundraising with enthusiasm, vigour and imagination. Before long many thousands of pounds were raised towards the cost of repairs. This was a seriously significant contribution which augmented the grants received from Heritage bodies, especially when the repair bill rose steeply half way through the project.
The final bill has now been paid and we would like to take this opportunity to say an enormous, heartfelt Thank you to all Friends of St. Mary's for your vision and the generous gift of your time and talent. Vanessa - I'm sure you could sell ice to the Eskimos - and always wit a wry smile! We look forward to continuing to co-operate together to ensure both the preservation of a gorgeous historic building and to breathe new life into it as a community hub, seeking new and exciting ways to serve the 21st century Feltwell village community.
Rev'd Joan Horan, Churchwardens and PCC, St. Mary's Feltwell.
